Mastercard Foundation is all set to launch the second edition of the Zambezi prize in partnership with the MIT Legatum Center, with the goal of revealing Africa’s most promising early-stage startups that can help advance financial inclusion in Africa.
The Zambezi winner and other top finalists will receive in cash prizes and participate in a seminar to help them address some of their key strategic and operational challenges. The first edition of the Zambezi prize in 2015 awarded African companies like Umati Capital from Kenya, Kifiya from Ethiopia and Tugende from Uganda.
The Legatum Center will organize a series of events in cities across Africa (Cape Town, Dakar, Lagos, and Nairobi) from July to September 2017 to meet and support start-ups in these respective cities. The tour is a prelude to the official opening of applications in August 2017.
